Mike Wallace suffers injury

Veteran “60 Minutes” newsman Mike Wallace is on the mend after slipping on a jetty, falling and hitting his head while on vacation.

Wallace, 85, walked away from the accident, which took place in mid-August on Martha’s Vineyard, but was later checked into a hospital for a few days for observation, CBS News spokesman Kevin Tedesco said Wednesday.

Doctors pronounced Wallace healthy, but the correspondent said that his hearing, memory and sight have suffered.

Nevertheless, he’s researching stories for the newsmagazine’s upcoming season and will begin conducting interviews next week, Tedesco said.
