Full Citizenship for Gays
Re “Domestic Partners Law Expands Gay Rights,” Sept. 20: In signing legislation expanding the rights of gay couples, Gov. Gray Davis continues to support the view that gay citizens, while paying full fare, may only sit at the back of the bus. If Davis truly believed in the full equality of gays he would have rejected the domestic partnership legislation and begun a campaign to repeal Proposition 22 and recognize gay marriage. “Separate and less than equal” won’t work. The principle we must uphold to call ourselves Americans is: equal protection and equal justice under the law.
