Will It Be Smooth Sailing for Rockin The Ship?
Rockin The Ship, who has won all three of his starts, will try to remain unbeaten tonight in the second of two trials for the April 30 Gold Rush Derby. The eight fastest qualifiers will return for the 870-yard final.
Rockin The Ship, a 3-year-old gelded son of Western Fame who is trained by Shane Chipman, broke his maiden going two furlongs at Santa Anita more than a year ago.
Idle until Feb. 19, he returned with a victory in a trial for the Catalina Derby, then won the Catalina Derby at 3-1 on March 6. Gary Boag retains the mount.
Termination and Hitmeonemoretime are the only horses with victories among the six entrants in the first trial. The former was fifth in the Catalina Derby while the latter is making his first start for trainer Paul Jones after being claimed for $10,000 on March 27.
