A bow to L.A. composers
The Penderecki String Quartet will play a free program of works by four Los Angeles composers on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at LACMA West, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd.
The composers -- Martin Loyato, Juhi Bansal, Mario Berlinguer and Yusuf Lateef -- also will have their works discussed by quartet members: violinists Jeremy Bell and Jerzy Kaplanek, violist Christine Vlajk and cellist Simon Fryer.
The program is sponsored by the American Composers Forum of Los Angeles, which will make scores available for the public to follow during the performances and discussions. Information: (562) 464-6644.
The Penderecki String Quartet also will play works by Steve Reich, Phillip Glass and John Oswald on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. in the Red Room at Zen Sushi, 2609 Hyperion Ave., L.A. $10. Information: (323) 857-6234.
