Municipal Voting to Start in November
From Times Wire Reports
In a step toward political reform in Saudi Arabia’s absolute monarchy, the government plans to hold municipal elections starting in November, the official news agency reported.
The first stage of the local elections will be held in the capital, Riyadh, after the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, and then will expand to other regions.
The elections will select half of the members of the nearly 180 municipal councils nationwide; the rest are expected to be appointed by the government.
The last such voting was held in the 1960s.
