Three O.C. Brush Fires Quickly Extinguished; Arson Suspected
Orange County firefighters Wednesday quickly contained three small brush fires believed to have been set at O’Neill Regional Park near Mission Viejo.
“We’ve had some reports of somebody on a bike trail lighting the fires, and right now sheriff’s deputies are looking for a suspect in the area,” said Capt. Stephen Miller, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
Miller said the first call came about 7:30 p.m. regarding what turned out to be a 3-acre fire between Mission Viejo and the unincorporated area of Las Flores.
That blaze was rapidly contained but was quickly followed by two others: one about one-quarter acre and another about 2 acres.
Using 20 fire engines and about 75 firefighters, Miller said, the Fire Authority was able to contain the second and third blazes within 45 minutes.
