Cantat can move to French prison
French rock star Bertrand Cantat, jailed for killing his actress girlfriend Marie Trintignant in Lithuania last year, will be allowed to serve the rest of his eight-year sentence in France, the Baltic state said Tuesday.
Trintignant, a member of one of France’s most famous acting families and a mother of four, died last August of head injuries sustained during a fight with Cantat in Vilnius, where she was shooting a film. She was 41. Cantat, lead singer of French rock band Noir Desir (Black Desire), was convicted of homicide by a Lithuanian court in March.
Justice Ministry spokesman Dainius Radzevicius said Lithuania was waiting for word from France that it would take Cantat, 40. Under French law, Cantat’s lawyers can apply for a conditional release after he has served half his sentence.
