Coliseum Officials, NFL Meet Behind Closed Doors

More than three months after the NFL presented them with a term sheet -- the framework of a potential stadium deal -- Coliseum officials presented their response to league executives Tuesday during a closed-door meeting in Los Angeles.

Neither side has released details of the term sheet, which one league official described as “a jumping-off point” for negotiations. The NFL also is considering stadium concepts at the Rose Bowl and on a 157-acre landfill in Carson. The league executives will meet with Rose Bowl officials today to review their reconfigured architectural plans, designs expected to be released later this week.

There are no immediate plans to meet with the Carson group, according to Ron Winkler, the city’s economic redevelopment manager. But the Carson group has begun the process of choosing a firm to conduct an environmental-impact report on the site, one that can be used whether a mall, a stadium, or both are built on the land.
