Group Recognizes Hawkish as Horse of the Year
The Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Assn. recently recognized its champions and Hawkish was selected horse of the year and champion 2-year-old colt.
The winner of both the Kindergarten Futurity and Ed Burke Memorial, Hawkish was honored despite his late-season fade, which included an off-the-board finish in the Los Alamitos Million last month.
Other winners included Be A Bono (2-year-old gelding), Babe On The Fly (2-year-old filly), The Down Side (3-year-old colt), Sum Special Strawfly (3-year-old gelding), Ab What A Runner (3-year-old filly), Takin On Spoon Man (aged stallion), Catchmeinyourdreams (aged gelding), Heros Call (distance horse), Paul Jones (trainer), Enriquez Gonzalez (owner), Ed Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm (breeders) and Ramon Sanchez (jockey).
The picks: 1. Pinash. 2. Saagre. 3. Rubys Diggity Vet. 4. Balance Sheet. 5. Proud Fantacia. 6. Sotogrande. 7. Rocket Run. 8. Bac In The Saddle. 9. A Classic Whiplash.
Four! Pinash, Flyin Stat Girl and Streakin Strait Away in the first, Top Table, Ghazieh Okba and Saagre in the second, Rubys Diggity Vet in the third and Balance Sheet and Cameron’s Way in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Vironica is reunited with jockey Adolfo Rodriguez in the seventh. Hrh Rated could improve with a race under her belt in the ninth.
