CHP Officers Wound Motorist After Chase
California Highway Patrol officers shot and wounded a motorist who struck their vehicle with his car Saturday after a chase in Compton, officials said.
Officers first spotted the man traveling south on Lime Avenue about 12:30 a.m., said CHP Officer Armando Clemente. The man hit two parked cars but put his car in reverse and headed for the approaching officers.
The officers returned to their car and chased him. The officers, who had fired at the suspect, discovered he had been shot in the torso, Clemente said.
The suspect, identified as a 25-year-old Los Angeles man, was taken to a hospital and was listed in good condition. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, failure to yield to a police officer and driving under the influence, Clemente said.
