Life Without Parole for Laguna Killer
As his murder victim’s daughter tearfully berated him for destroying her family, Gilberto Corrales Garcia appeared unmoved.
His face remained blank Friday as Orange County Superior Court Judge William R. Froeberg sentenced the three-time felon to four life sentences for killing Simindokht Roshdieh, 53, and wounding her husband as he tried to protect her during a 1995 robbery of their Laguna Beach ice cream parlor.
Garcia tried to rob the shop Feb. 20, 1995, stopping there after holding up three other Orange County businesses that day, including a Tustin Baskin-Robbins where he was videotaped.
He pointed a 9-millimeter handgun at Roshdieh and ordered her to open the cash register, then fatally shot her in the throat. When her husband, Firooz Roshdieh, came after Garcia with a broom handle, Garcia shot him in the shoulder.
Garcia was identified five years later by Laguna Beach detectives using a database of gang members’ tattoos.
