Charges Filed in 1991 Death
The Orange County district attorney’s office Thursday filed murder charges against a man in connection with the 1991 beating death of a transient at a Garden Grove high school.
Jason Unutoa, 34, already imprisoned at Centinela State Prison in Imperial County near San Diego for an unrelated 1992 homicide in Long Beach, will be taken to Orange County within two weeks to face the new charges, according to Sgt. Scott Watson, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Police Department.
He was charged in the death of Gheorghe Suteu, 34, a Romanian transient known to carry large sums of money.
Suteu was found March 17, 1991, under the bleachers at Bolsa Grande High School on Westminster Avenue.
Using a database, investigators at the Orange County sheriff’s crime lab were recently able to connect Unutoa to DNA samples found at the scene of the crime, Watson said.
