JUST BACK
Near Bend, Ore., my husband, Paul, and I cranked our mountain bikes a chilly two miles into a lava tube cave, along a roller-coaster trail shaded by Douglas firs, across narrow log bridges at the McKenzie River and through shallow snowbanks at the base of Mt. Hood. It was a joyous adventure.
