Pataki Rejects State Minimum Wage Hike
From Times Wire Reports
Gov. George E. Pataki vetoed a bill that would have raised the state’s hourly minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.15 by 2007.
Pataki said in Albany that he favored a minimum wage increase but that the national level, which is also $5.15, should be raised.
He said raising the state level would leave businesses at a competitive disadvantage and drive jobs to bordering New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
