Fund Created to Defray Ransom Paid on Terrier
Calaveras County authorities have set up a bank account in response to dozens of offers from people wishing to help an 80-year-old widower who said he paid $10,000 from his savings to ransom his dog, which had been abducted July 20.
The mixed terrier turned up at Frank Compton’s rural home east of Stockton on July 21, hours after he says he met with a man on a remote rural road who had earlier threatened to kill the dog if the money wasn’t paid. Compton said the man grabbed a roll of $100 bills during their encounter and fled.
