Nuclear Plant Shutdown Cuts Power to 65,000
From Times Wire Reports
A disturbance in the power grid caused a nuclear plant to shut down and temporarily cut off power to about 65,000 residents in Phoenix and Tucson.
All three units of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station were shut down as they were designed to do when the disturbance hit, said Jim McDonald, a spokesman for Arizona Public Service Co.
He said he didn’t know what type of disturbance occurred or its cause. However, there were no evacuations or safety issues connected to the shutdown.
