Proposed Cut in Police Review Board Fails
A newly elected Riverside city councilman’s motion to cut funding for the Riverside Community Police Review Commission did not receive the support of any other council member during a budget meeting Tuesday. The independent civilian panel, created after the December 1998 Tyisha Miller shooting, will continue operating with a budget of $300,000.
Councilman Art Gage, who accepted $11,000 in campaign donations from Riverside Police Officers’ Assn. proposed the funding cut. Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge said Gage’s motion would have made the commission “a shell of itself.”
