Second Anti-Copying Ruling Is Issued
Viacom Inc. and News Corp. won a second court order to force DVD-copying products off the market, two weeks after a California judge ruled that the products violated federal copyright law.
U.S. District Judge Richard Owen in New York granted Viacom’s Paramount Pictures and News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox a temporary order to block 321 Studios Inc. from distributing software that lets users bypass encryption codes that prevent copying. The Motion Picture Assn. of America won a similar order last month from a San Francisco judge.
