Baker’s Conference Call With Arbitrator Put Off

Vin Baker’s grievance against the NBA was delayed when a conference call with an arbitrator was rescheduled from Wednesday to today.

Baker is seeking an immediate judgment from arbitrator Roger Kaplan freeing him to sign with any team. The grievance was filed after the NBA issued a memo to all 29 teams barring them from signing Baker until his arbitration case against the Boston Celtics is settled.

The Celtics terminated the final 2 1/2 seasons of his contract -- worth $35 million -- for missing 10 games while on suspension for violating terms of his alcohol treatment program.

Detroit Piston Coach Larry Brown was fined $7,500 by the NBA for failing to leave the court in a timely manner after his ejection from Sunday’s victory over the Clippers at Staples Center. After being thrown out with 16 seconds left in the first quarter following his second technical foul, Brown started walking down the sideline toward the wrong exit, then made a beeline toward referee Bill Spooner and had to be restrained by Rasheed Wallace and Corliss Williamson before leaving....
