Davis Is Player of Year

Pacific guard Miah Davis was chosen Big West Conference player of the year after leading the Tigers to a share of the regular-season championship.

Davis, a 6-foot senior from Bremerton, Wash., finished among the conference’s top 10 in scoring (14.6), free-throw percentage (85.1) and three-point field-goal percentage (39.1). In the last 12 games, he shot 54.8% from the field and averaged 18.2 points.

Bob Thomason of Pacific was selected coach of the year for leading the Tigers to their first conference title in six years.

Davis and Pacific teammate Christian Maraker were first-team selections, along with Cal State Fullerton forward Pape Sow and Utah State guards Mark Brown and Cardell Butler and Aggie forward Nate Harris.

Fullerton guard Bobby Brown was chosen the conference’s top freshman. Brown, who played on two state championship teams at Westchester High, averaged 13.0 points a game.

Idaho sophomore forward Emily Faurholt was the Big West women’s player of the year. Faurholt is the nation’s leading scorer, averaging 26.1 points a game. Other first-team selections were guards Leilani Mitchell of Idaho and Casandra Reeves of UC Riverside, forward Ofa Tulikihihifo of Cal State Northridge and forward Kristen Mann and center Lindsay Taylor of UC Santa Barbara.

Mitchell was the conference’s top freshman, and Idaho’s Mike Divilbiss was coach of the year.
