The chase began at Harbor Boulevard and Warner Avenue in Fountain Valley at 6:55 p.m. after a woman driving a Volkswagen tried to assault an officer. Details of what she did were not available.

Driving at speeds exceeding 70 mph, she traveled north on Harbor into Santa Ana, where she drove the wrong way down at least one street and nearly hit two pedestrians.

“This person was all over the road,” said Officer Stacy Willits, a CHP spokeswoman.
