It’s buyer compare, but also beware
Regarding “ ‘Best rate’ Is Often Not, So Take Advantage of That Guarantee” [The Internet Traveler, April 25]: I have found a site that does some comparison of hotel prices, TripAdvisor.com. I have been researching hotels in Europe and used it. It compared prices on Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz. Each site would pop up with the name of the hotel and give availability as well as its price.

I recently had an experience with Travelocity that was different from what your article described.
We made a reservation at a Hyatt hotel in Palm Springs with a rate guarantee. Feeling pretty confident, we booked it. We thought that the rate guarantee would protect us or even provide a bonus. We later went on Hyatt.com and found a lower rate. We thought that with a guarantee, Travelocity would simply cancel our reservation. Instead it withheld $25. Even after we quoted its policy, it refused to refund the $25. We finally filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We eventually received our refund.
