Alleged Attacker Is Shot to Death by Deputy
MURRIETA — A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who had allegedly attacked the deputy outside a home in the Wildomar area, authorities said.
Philip Donovan, 19, was combative and unruly and attacked after the deputy arrived at a house on Orange Street shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Dennis Gutierrez. The deputy was responding to a report of someone yelling for help, Gutierrez said.
The deputy, a four-year veteran whose name was not released, shot Donovan, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Donovan lived at the home in the unincorporated community, Gutierrez said.
The deputy was placed on administrative leave while the Sheriff’s Department investigates the shooting.
