Senate OKs Ban on Force-Feeding of Birds

A bill that would ban the force-feeding of ducks, geese and other birds to produce the delicacy foie gras was approved by the state Senate on Tuesday.
A 21-14 vote sent the measure by Senate President Pro Tem John Burton (D-San Francisco) to the Assembly.
Foie gras producers could be fined up to $1,000 for each violation and up to $1,000 for each day a violation occurred.
