HOT CORNER
What: “25 Years of Sailing.”
Where: ESPN Classic, tonight, 6 and 9.
One of the appealing aspects of watching sailing on television is that it is done in such a beautiful setting, with the sun glistening off the blue ocean. That is also one of the appealing aspects of this one-hour special reviewing the evolution of sailing in the last 25 years.
The main draw, though, is that so many of the memorable races and historic moments are so well-chronicled. The special also examines the dramatic technological advances and profiles many of the larger-than-life personalties involved in the sport.
ESPN commentator Gary Jobson, a member of the 1977 America’s Cup-winning team, is the host and producer.
“More progress has been made in the last 25 years in the development of sailing than in the previous 200,” Jobson says.
