Bicyclist Is Killed in Irvine Collision
From a Times Staff Writer
A bicyclist was killed Monday when he swerved out of a bike lane into the path of an oncoming pickup, Irvine police said.
Police did not release the name of the 56-year-old man, pending notification of relatives.
The cyclist was riding west on Bonita Canyon Road between Shady Canyon Drive and Culver Drive about 5:20 p.m. when the accident occurred.
“For unknown reasons, he made a turn out of the bike lane,” said Police Lt. Tom Hume.
The driver of the pickup was not cited, but the accident remained under investigation, Hume said.
