San Mateo County Panel Approves Tunnel Project
From Times Wire Reports
The San Mateo County Planning Commission approved a $275-million tunnel project that will bypass the winding and often treacherous stretch of Highway 1 known as Devil’s Slide.
The action means that in the future residents won’t have to negotiate the dangerous stretch, south of Pacifica. County voters overwhelmingly approved a plan to build the tunnel in 1996, but the project was slowed by extensive environmental requirements and funding issues.
