Contend, who won his last start by 1 1/4 lengths as a 10-1 longshot, will be a shorter price tonight as he takes on five others in the $26,800 Town Policy Handicap at 350 yards.
The 3-year-old Corona Cartel colt has won two in a row after finishing fourth in his first start of 2004 on Feb. 7.
Bred in Idaho and trained by Santiago Rodriguez, Contend has won four of 11 overall and will be ridden by Gary Boag against Ze Eye, West Coast Okie, Dragon Dash, Wired To Fly and He Could Be The One.
Ze Eye, Wired To Fly and He Could Be The One are all trained by Paul Jones. Wired To Fly also has won two in a row. The Arizona-bred will be ridden by Alejandro Luna as he seeks his sixth win in 12 starts.
He Could Be The One has not been worse than third in his last eight races. He will leave from the outside post under jockey Carlos Bautista.
