Majority of Area Homes Still at Risk in Temblor

About two-thirds of older Bay Area homes have not been seismically retrofitted, leaving them at risk in a major earthquake, according to a regional study.
Inspectors with the Assn. for Bay Area Governments also found out that 60% to 90% of homeowners erroneously thought that they had completed a retrofit.
The study found that 38% of pre-1960 homes in Berkeley had sufficient retrofit. That number dips to 14% in San Francisco, 8% in Daly City and 3% in Santa Clara.
