Interstate Partially Opens After Rock Slide
Crews managed to reopen a lane of traffic in each direction of Interstate 70 through scenic Glenwood Canyon, one day after a rock slide sent boulders as big as vans crashing onto the road.
Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Stacey Stegman said it could be weeks before the road was completely repaired and reopened. The department estimates the slide early Thanksgiving Day caused $1 million in damage.
No one was hurt when more than three dozen boulders came down the mountain, some creating 6-foot holes in the pavement of the elevated highway. Traffic was forced on a 220-mile detour through the mountains.
