3 Jailed Dissidents Freed for Medical Reasons
From Times Wire Reports
Cuba released three imprisoned dissidents -- Oscar Espinosa Chepe, Margarito Broche and Marcelo Lopez -- for medical reasons.
Broche, who suffered a heart attack in August and has trouble walking because of back pain, said international pressure, mainly from Europe, was crucial in securing his freedom.
The three were among 75 opponents of President Fidel Castro arrested in a March 2003 crackdown, charged with treason and sentenced to up to 28 years in prison.
