Strong Winds Batter Lower Peninsula

Winds gusting to 55 mph whipped much of southern Michigan, dropping trees and power lines and knocking out electricity to about 250,000 customers.
High wind warnings were in effect for most of the southern two-thirds of the Lower Peninsula, the National Weather Service said. The strong southwesterly winds also brought unseasonable warmth to the state.
The high temperature of 75 at Detroit Metro airport was nearly a record for the date.
