Troy Glaus believes Dallas McPherson will do a fine job succeeding him as the Angels’ third baseman, the agent for Glaus said Saturday.

Glaus was traveling abroad and unavailable for comment, one day after General Manager Bill Stoneman said the Angels planned to replace the three-time All-Star and 2002 World Series most valuable player with rookie slugger McPherson.

“He’s Dallas’ biggest supporter,” said Mike Nicotera, the agent for Glaus. “He likes Dallas a lot. He told me, if they give this guy a chance, he’ll be fine. Troy will move on with his career, and he’s very much looking forward to playing third base next year.”

Although he was limited to designated hitter in September, after returning from shoulder surgery, Glaus is scheduled to start throwing shortly, Nicotera said. The Angels did not ask him about playing first base or DH, Nicotera said.

Glaus earned $9.95 million last season. The free agent already has generated interest from “more than a handful” of clubs, Nicotera said.

“We think, at 28, Troy is one of the premier power hitters in the game and entering his prime,” Nicotera said.

Stoneman did not discuss specific contract figures with Nicotera, either in length or dollars, the agent said, but explained the availability of McPherson enabled the Angels to spend to improve other positions. Nicotera said Glaus had prepared himself for such a decision and harbored no ill will toward the Angels.

“It’s fine,” Nicotera said. “It’s not acrimonious. He’s very proud of what the team accomplished while he was there.”
