Authorities Delay Municipal Elections
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Saudi Arabia has pushed back the date for municipal elections from November to 2005.
Municipal Affairs Minister Prince Mutib ibn Abdulaziz al Saud said the first votes, for councils in the capital district, would be held Feb. 10. Elections for councils in other regions will take place March 3 and April 21.
The kingdom said last year it would hold the elections after the U.S. and domestic reformers applied pressure for greater political participation.
