U.S. Plutonium Sent Under Pact With Russia
From Times Wire Reports
Plutonium from U.S. nuclear warheads is headed for France aboard armed freighters for conversion into reactor fuel to be sent back to the United States.
The shipment is part of an effort to fulfill the terms of a 2000 U.S.-Russia disarmament accord under which each country promised to destroy 34 tons of military plutonium.
