Nation Will Buy 5,000 U.S. ‘Smart’ Bombs
From Times Wire Reports
The United States will sell Israel nearly 5,000 “smart” bombs in one of the largest weapons deals between the allies in years, Israeli military officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The deal will expand Israel’s supply of the weapons, they said. The officials ruled out the possibility that the bombs could be used against Palestinian targets.
Israel drew heavy criticism after a “smart” bomb that killed a Palestinian militant also left 15 civilians dead in an attack in the Gaza Strip in July 2002.
