Panel Seeks More Time to Study County Split
SANTA BARBARA
The panel appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to study splitting Santa Barbara County in two have asked for another six months to determine where a new Mission County would be economically viable.
The five-member Mission County Formation Review Commission had hoped to finish its study by November. But the commission said Monday that the sheer mass of documents, fiscal studies and data needed to complete the document will make it difficult to finish within the first six months.
If the governor grants the extension, the commission anticipates approval of its draft report by Dec. 20 and final approval Jan. 31. The extension request gives the board until May to finish everything.
