Chiefs’ Warfield to Face Charges
Their star running back is wearing an ankle brace and their best defensive back just got arrested.
That’s the latest from the 0-2 Kansas City Chiefs.
“There’ll be some teams 2-0 that will fold and there will be some teams that are 0-2 come on strong,” Coach Dick Vermeil said Tuesday. “These guys have been through adversity before.”
More bad news came early Monday when cornerback Eric Warfield was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Paul Morrison, district attorney for Johnson County, Kan., said he intends to file charges against Warfield. It would be the third time Warfield faced such a charge in the last three years. Under Kansas law, a third drunken driving charge is a felony that carries a sentence of up to one year in jail.
There also was no good news on the status of running back Priest Holmes, who has led the NFL the last three years with 4,590 yards rushing, 6,566 yards from scrimmage and 61 touchdowns. Holmes left the game against Carolina on Sunday because of an ankle sprain.

Rookie tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. of the Cleveland Browns had surgery on his right leg, which he broke against Dallas on Sunday, and could forfeit a $5.3-million roster bonus, ESPN.com reported.
Under terms of the six-year, $40-million contract he signed in August, Winslow must participate in 35% of Cleveland’s offensive plays to receive the one-time bonus, paid in 2005. It’s unclear whether there is a medical provision in the contract to protect Winslow. He is expected to be out at least two months.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals refused to reinstate a lawsuit against the Vikings for the actions of its trainers before the death of lineman Korey Stringer, who was 27 when he died of heat stroke during training camp in 2001.
Stringer’s widow, Kelci, contended her husband didn’t get proper medical care after collapsing following a drill.
