L.A. or Latrobe? He chooses L.A.
REGARDING the article on Latrobe, Pa., promoting itself at L.A.’s expense [Travel Insider, July 24]:
I was born at Latrobe Hospital, which is next door to the Rolling Rock brewery, spent many idyllic days of my youth at Idyllwild Park and am even acquainted with members of the family of Latrobe’s star resident, Arnold Palmer.
Beautiful it is, but I came out to L.A. to attend UCLA and never looked back. From my dorm room, I could see the ocean beyond Pacific Palisades and Eva Gabor’s estate.
I am familiar with such celebrated spots around the world as St. Bart’s in the Caribbean, Cassis and Provence in France, Italy’s Tuscany and Umbria, but Los Angeles never fails to impress me with its vibrant multiple cultures and its beauty.
