Siren Lure Looks at Home on Turf
Claimed by trainer Art Sherman for a partnership after a victory May 8 at Bay Meadows, Siren Lure has continued successfully for his new connections.
The 4-year-old Joyeux Danseur gelding has won two in a row for Sherman and is one of the contenders in the $75,000 Green Flash Handicap today at Del Mar.
Formerly trained by Ted H. West and John Martin, Siren Lure has won two of six on the main track but apparently has found his calling on turf. He has won four of five on grass and will get his first shot on the Del Mar course in the five-furlong Green Flash.
Alex Solis, who rode Siren Lure to his latest victory, a neck decision over Stormin’ Lyon in the Robert Kerlan Memorial on July 10 at Hollywood Park, will ride again today.
The 122-pound high weight in the field is Mighty Beau, a 6-year-old Rainbow Prospect gelding trained by Jeff Mullins. Mighty Beau, who will be ridden by Garrett Gomez, has won six of 32 on the grass and will be making his first start since returning from England in June.
Race of the day: Sabellina is back to defend her title in the first division of the $75,000 Yaddo Handicap today at Saratoga. Jerry Bailey will ride the 4-year-old Langfuhr filly for owner Jay Lieberman and trainer Joe Aquilino in the 1 1/8 -mile turf race for older New York-bred fillies and mares.
One for the road: Formal Appeal should come out running in his debut in today’s fifth at Saratoga. He comes from Steve Asmussen’s barn, which has won five 2-year-old maiden races at the meet. Jerry Bailey, who has been aboard all the other winners, will ride the son of Successful Appeal for Satish Sanan’s Padua Stables in the $45,000 race at 5 1/2 furlongs.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Dauphin and Igor in the third, R.H. Perfect Storm and Phone Erna in the fourth, and Pink Coral, Homecoming and Single Market in the fifth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/68. Money: Previous day/meet total: $26.20/$407.80. Total money bet: $412.
