GM Recalling Pickups, SUVs for Brake Repair
General Motors Corp. has begun a recall of 804,000 large pickups and sport utility vehicles to repair anti-lock brake systems.
The vehicles are registered in 14 states in the Northeast and Great Lakes regions, where road salt used to melt winter ice has corroded some of the systems.
A total of 228 accidents and 10 minor injuries have been attributed to the damage, which can cause the anti-lock system to deploy during low-speed braking, increasing stopping distances.
The recall covers 1999 to 2002 model year Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs and Avalanche and Silverado pickups, and GMC Yukon SUVs and Sierra pickups.
