Film scripts put on the Internet
An online catalog to help people locate more than 30,000 motion picture scripts spanning 95 years of filmmaking was launched Thursday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Motion Picture Scripts Database lists scripts from 1910 to the present housed at six Southland libraries -- the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library, American Film Institute’s Louis B. Mayer Library, Frances Howard Goldwyn Hollywood Regional Library, UCLA, USC Cinema-Television Library and the Writers Guild of America, West.
The database is searchable by title, releasing company, year of release, genre, writer and library.
Formerly available to the public in book form, the catalog has added at least 1,000 titles since its last printing in 2002.
The catalog, available online at www.scriptlist.oscars.org, will be updated monthly and will replace the previous hard-copy editions.
