Paris, Oklahoma Stop New Mexico

Freshman Courtney Paris got her 10th double-double of the season with 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Chelsi Welch had a season-high 20 points as No. 20 Oklahoma upset No. 16 New Mexico, 83-70, Friday night at Albuquerque.

Paris, who leads the nation in double-doubles, had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the second half after getting in foul trouble early and playing only five minutes in the first half.

The Sooners (10-3) didn’t miss Paris, as Welch scored 18 points in the first half. Welch scored eight points during an 18-0 run that gave them a 30-8 lead with 9:28 left. The Lobos (9-3) trailed by 20 or more points most of the second half before outscoring the Sooners, 14-2, during the final 3:23.

No. 2 Duke 119, San Diego 52 -- The Blue Devils (11-0) outscored the Toreros (4-8) in the second half, 61-26, to win the Surf and Slam tournament title at San Diego.

No. 3 Louisiana State 87, South Florida 44 -- The Tigers (10-0) scored 19 consecutive points midway through the first half to take control, and the Bulls (10-3) went more than seven minutes without a basket. LSU went on an 18-0 run early in the second half to stretch its lead to 71-22.

No. 6 Maryland 92, Furman 58 -- The Terrapins (12-1) cruised to their eighth consecutive victory by beating the Palladins (5-6) in the championship game of the Terrapin Classic at College Park. Md.

No. 9 Rutgers 63, No. 19 Texas 49 -- The Scarlet Knights (9-1), coming off a 10-point loss at Mississippi on Dec. 14, were too sharp for the Longhorns (6-4) at Piscataway, N.J. Matee Ajavon and Cappie Pondexter combined for 18 points during a 19-4 run that enabled Rutgers to pull away.

No. 10 Michigan State 75, Central Michigan 50 -- The Spartans (10-3) tuned up for Sunday’s Big Ten opener against visiting Michigan by routing the Chippewas (9-2) at East Lansing, Mich.

No. 17 Georgia 81, Tennessee Martin 47 -- The Bulldogs (9-3), who led the Skyhawks (3-6) the entire game at Martin, Tenn., were led by Cori Chambers, who scored 29 points.

No. 21 Vanderbilt 92, William & Mary 66 -- The Tribe (4-5) missed 10 of their first 11 shots and trailed, 14-2, less than seven minutes into the game at Nashville. The Commodores (10-3) extended their lead to 63-30 with 14 minutes left.

No. 23 Utah 79, Southern Utah 47 -- The Utes (9-2) opened the second half at Salt Lake City with a 16-4 run that included four three-point baskets and gave them a 53-26 lead.
