Bush report producer resigns
Mary Murphy, a producer involved in CBS’ discredited report on President Bush’s National Guard service, has resigned, nearly two months after an independent report criticized the handling of the story.
Murphy and “60 Minutes Wednesday” executive producer Josh Howard were asked by CBS to resign after an independent panel found they rushed the Bush report to the air without proper checks. CBS News Senior Vice President Betsy West also was asked to give up her job. But Murphy is the first of the three to leave. Another CBS producer involved in the report, Mary Mapes, was fired.
