Northrop Names Ryan to Head Satellite Unit
David L. Ryan, former head of Boeing Co.’s satellite-making business in El Segundo, was named vice president in charge of satellite payloads and sensors at Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Space Technology unit in Redondo Beach.
Ryan, who was credited with helping to turn around Boeing’s troubled satellite business, is rejoining Northrop, where he spent 13 years designing satellites.
Boeing is reorganizing its satellite operations by splitting it into two units -- one for commercial and civil application, and another for military and intelligence work. Boeing’s satellite business is expected this year to post its first profit in three years.
