School District Names New Superintendent
The city’s school district Saturday named Carl Cohn, who received national acclaim for improving the Long Beach school system, as its next superintendent.
School board trustees announced earlier this month that they had unanimously chosen a superintendent, but withheld the name pending contract negotiations. Cohn, 59, will succeed Alan Bersin, who stepped down as superintendent in April to become Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s education secretary.
School board President Luis Acle said that Cohn’s “proven track record in urban education” made him “an ideal candidate.”
