Green Day tops MTV nominees

Punk-pop band Green Day captured eight nominations for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “American Idiot” Monday to lead nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards.
Rocker Gwen Stefani and rap artist Missy Elliott each won six nominations, and the Irish band U2 had five.
The 22nd annual MTV awards will be broadcast from Miami on Aug. 28. Rapper Kanye West, “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson and Green Day are among the scheduled performers, MTV said in a news release.
