FEAT OF THE WEEK
Stanley Farrar of La Canada-Flintridge and I climbed Mt. Fuji with 130 of our closest Japanese friends in late June. With a 3 p.m. start and a sleepless night at a mountain sanso, or hut, near the summit, we set off at 2 a.m. for the high point. We got to the top in time for a stunning sunrise, a stroll around the summit crater and a slide down the trail.
