Bygone biology

Regarding “Should History be the Guide to Biodiversity?” [June 7]: The story seemed to promote the reintroduction of species not present in California since the Pleistocene era.

I offer this suggestion: Let’s reintroduce species more recently extirpated. First choice: Ursus arctos, otherwise known as the brown or grizzly bear.
