No pretty ‘Penny’
One aspect of Long Beach Opera’s “in your face” production of “The Threepenny Opera” not mentioned in Chris Pasles’ review [“Penny for Thoughts on a Classic,” June 13] was the transmutation of Jenny into a male homosexual prostitute, as opposed to the as-written female role made famous by Lotte Lenya.
Inventing a homoerotic theme, along with an earlier scene of full-frontal male nudity, added nothing to the music or the drama.
